The photos of the 4 dolls are gifts my mom got me when she went to her homeland in Mexico. I named them of course: The far left doll (or closest to the camera) is festival doll named Natalia, she also has a decorated sombrero on her back. Right of her is a La Banda boy named Emanuel, he has a decorated sombrero on his back too. Right of him is a Mexican festive “Barbie” doll but she is a bit more flimsy rather than the solid rubber/vinyl of an actual Barbie doll, I named her Valentina. Lastly, a Mayan doll named Ixchel (Ish-chel) which means Moon Goddess.
The Native twins were bought from my mom’s church’s flea market sale. You can tell they’re antique, the boy native is actually missing his arms – his vest is just glued to him, he’s named Tanok (Sun) and the female twin is named Nakawe (Spirit of Stars & Water).
Horror Film Review *SPOILERS AHEAD*
The Conjuring 2:
I didn’t have high hopes for this film. Especially since James Wan has trouble with making sequels/prequels to his horror films… Insidious, Annabelle, and (not a sequel or prequel) Demonic (B-movie, straight to VOD/Streaming, was very disappointing). Anyway, it was weird that they glossed over Amityville and went straight to the Enfield Poltergeist – which Ed & Lorraine Warren were not a part of. I get that there have been a shit ton of Amityville horror films already churned up out there – but they could have done other cases that the couple were involved in? It was interesting that they spoke to an actual family member who witnessed the Enfield Haunting so the re-enacted some of the events she spoke of – but none of it was scary. Like the child’s acting was not convincing to me and I found myself bored a bit throughout. There were some cool scenes where the demonic possession was displayed but none of them were scary. Like the scene where Ed was talking to the demon while the girl held water in her mouth – to prove that demons control you internally and don’t need your mouth to speak – that was cool but the girl was blurred out in the background as Ed was in the foreground asking questions… I like Patrick Wilson but I love seeing the demonic possession stages, interactions, etc. so I was sad that she was just blurred in the background. The rest is uninteresting and some of it was classic possession cliches.. which is disappointing coming from James Wan.
